The American Academic of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) published the guidelines to assist in making evidence-based decisions in the conservative management of hip and knee osteoarthritis. There are many nonsurgical treatment options available to patients for the treatment of hip and knee osteoarthritis. 1, 2 Total joint arthroplasty is an effective treatment option for end-stage osteoarthritis, 3, 4 but a trial of conservative management is prudent and should be tried before surgical intervention. The pain associated with osteoarthritis can have a detrimental impact on a patient's function and quality of life.
